Here I am (Ready For Each New Day)

Happy New Year, everyone! (This is my 11th blog post, and I’m so excited!!!! Angel numbers, baby!)

I want every person reading this to have the most successful and peaceful year. No matter what happens this year, please remember a few things:

1) Every day is a new beginning. You do not need to wait for next year to implement a new habit, make a different choice, or do something that doesn’t propel you forward.

2) Accept yourself exactly as you are, because you are perfectly you. No one in the world can be a better you. You have a unique set of gifts, traits, ancestry, and beliefs. Your existence makes this world a brighter, more interesting place.

3) You will continue to find things you want to improve, and that doesn’t take away from how far you’ve come. In fact, if you hadn’t done everything that led you to the place you’re in now, you wouldn’t be in a place to want the things you currently want.

4) You can course-correct anytime. You started people pleasing again? Okay great, you recognized it! Now stop ;) You got this.

5) Most things in life aren’t linear. That doesn’t mean they can’t be simple, enjoyable, and enriching. When experiencing a perceived setback, instead of feeling depressed, guilty, ashamed, and/or whatever else, this is the time to remind yourself that you are HUMAN. You will have setbacks, you will have times that you aren’t 100% or better than ever, and that’s part of it! You are still amazing, kind, thoughtful, and doing SO MUCH. Give yourself the same break you would give someone else in your shoes. If you need to, write yourself a letter today for when this day happens and tell yourself in your own words exactly what you know you will need to hear.

6) On days when the world feels overwhelming, go back to yourself and the people closest to you. Get off social media, take a break from doing too much and spreading yourself too thin. Don’t quit, rest, and let the people around you that love you so incredibly much be support for you.

7) Acknowledge your emotions. Yes, all of your emotions. Don’t hide from the feelings that seem dark to you hoping you can stay in the light longer. The opposite WILL happen.

8) Last, but certainly not least, if all you do is survive this year, you’re doing enough. You are enough. You don’t need to accomplish anything to be enough. You already are.

Come back to this whenever you need.

Now, I am going to fill you in on some of my favorite things for this year, how to find them, and my experience with them so far.

  • Rosemary smudge - I love doing this in the morning. Native American’s use rosemary to celebrate new beginnings, and what a special start to the day to remember this is a new start, a new opportunity to make a new choice. For those of you in Colorado, I love getting mine from The Little Apothecary in Lafayette. They have a good selection if the rosemary scent isn’t for you.

  • Gratitude journaling - There is no shortage of journals in the world, so pick one that you enjoy using. You probably already have one somewhere. If you don’t enjoy writing these down, say them out loud to yourself. I do this in the shower when I’m running late, and it still helps me to take any time focusing on things I am grateful for. I have found that practicing gratitude in different rooms of the house, or places in general opens my eyes to things I am grateful for.

    • ADHD tip: If you feel like you forget to do this, add a shower notepad and simply write the word gratitude on it so you will see it and then remember to say out loud things you are grateful for!

  • Beginning the day with a 10-15 minute YouTube video, meditation, visualization, or prayer. Spending the first 10-15 minutes utilizing theta brain waves means you are in connection with intuition, memory, and creativity. These moments allow things to make their way into your subconscious brain faster than during alpha waves (during the day when you are fully awake), so you will see results of them faster. It can be a TEDTalk you’re interested in, an Abraham Hicks lecture, a guided meditation or visualization you found, or if you choose to pray, this is a good time to be in the receptive mode. You can do this while getting ready for the day as well if it’s something you are only listening to; it may not be quite as effective, but will still be more effective than not doing this. Theta waves last for the first 5-15 minutes when you wake up, so act fast ;)

    • ADHD tip: queue it up the night before when you are actually falling asleep, not scrolling still, and have it be the first thing on your phone when you wake up and check your phone. If this doesn’t work, change your alarm in the morning to be a quick reminder of affirmations or something that you record! If it’s your alarm, you will have to hear it.

  • Forgive yourself for anything you wanted to do that day that you didn’t. It’s okay. There is always tomorrow. And if you feel you need to build trust with yourself, you can create a to-do list and prioritize items by A, B, and C each day. A’s will get done today no matter what, B’s and C’s can carry into tomorrow or the next day and you can still celebrate accomplishing your A List!

My email is always open for anyone that wants to reach out with questions, or to have an open conversation about any of the above, something you’re struggling with and want support, or life in general.

Love you all!
